IETF RFCs around EBML & Matroska

The IETF’s CELLAR working group standardizes different technologies useful for video archival, with Matroska being the chosen container format.

Our first effort was creating an RFC (“Request For Comments”, the standard documents produced by the IETF) for the underlying technology used by Matroska: the EBML format.

You can read RFC 8794 over on the IETF site in different formats.

We’re also actively working on a family of RFCs around Matroska. You can read RFC 9559 on the IETF site in different formats, too.

Other specifications around Matroska are still in the specification process. Their current status can be found here in the various pages in the “technical” section.
